Passion Week for Kids

Passion Week is not just the best time to take a vacation and relax from our mundane activities. It is also the best time to reflect, remember and worship our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ about what He has done for us on the cross and His Resurrection.

It is also the best time to teach our kids what this week is all about. It is the best time to share the Gospel to them. The best time to plant the seeds in their hearts of what the Savior had to go through so that you and I would be saved and freed from our sin.

It has been on for years that children’s activities during Passion Week is to hunt for eggs. Not that I discredit such activities but it is important that our children would not be confused between hunting eggs and the cross and between Easter Bunny and Jesus Christ.

We cannot stop the world from doing these activities since they are really fun especially for the children. But at the same time, as Christian parents, we shouldn’t be complacent about this. Their salvation cannot be dependent on Easter Bunnies. Their salvation lies on the very events that took place during this week – the death and resurrection of Jesus. The passion of our Savior to go through Calvary to save our very souls. Bob Talbert said, “Teaching kids to count is fine, but teaching them what counts is best.” This is one that really counts not only for this life but for eternity.

Parents are also commanded in Deuteronomy 4:9-10 “But watch out! Be careful never to forget what you yourself have seen. Do not let these memories escape from your mind as long as you live! And be sure to pass them on to your children and grandchildren.” The question is, what are we passing on to them? Is it truth?

Parents, let’s take this opportunity to lead our children to Jesus Christ. I pray that as we teach them what this week is all about, they will humble themselves and stand in awe of our Savior.

While writing this, we will be doing an activity with the kids tonight. I saw this in Pinterest but had to edit the title and the subtitle of the activity. The beautiful thing about this activity is that they will learn the chronological order of the events this week by reading the Bible themselves.

Activity Sheet for kids during Passion Week
The journey of Jesus Christ

Join us as we do this activity together and don’t hesitate to share with me how it went with your kids. Praying with you that as we teach our kids what Passion Week is all about, it would stir up their hearts to commit their lives to Christ into loving Him with their all. May it also refresh our hearts as parents.

Love,

Christian Mom

  2. I totally agree! The Easter activities and crafts are fun, but as with Christmas, we should teach our children (and remind ourselves) of “the reason for the season.” That Pinterest activity is a great idea.
